EVALUATION!
How are you using media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
My media A2 Media production consisted of main product of a music promo, alongside two ancillaries’ the first being music advertising poster (for the single of our chosen music promo) and the other an 8 page CD booklet. As a group we planned to create this production as professional as possible so it could get the highest grade possible. Firstly, we decided to construct a movie teaser trailer; however as a group we came to a decision to alter our genre to music video because we felt we knew about that field more hence that could benefit our grades more in the long run. Whilst the construction process was ongoing we used a wide variety of media technologies which helped us produce our media production. As a group we had familiarise ourselves with the Video Editing Programme Premier (by Adobe), simultaneously also learning the different functions of video cameras and how we could use the variety of elements to our advantage. We were doing a music video so we did not have to use the majority of accessories used in a video camera, for instance: a voice enhancing equipment. We had to engross our attention on the camera and tripod which aided us to steady our shots from a range of angles. As a group we yearned to use a wide span of techniques to make our music video more realistic; so we wanted settings at different times of day we chose to use a night vision light which we could get from the camera. However, the light was not strong enough to help us with all the parts we wanted. For instance: The narrative scenes which we chose to shoot at a darker time of day, we transformed this part of the video to black and white, however the light did not improve adequately to the quality of the shots used.
We changed the colouring of the narrative scenes, an idea that we came up with at the beginning of our project. We included a storyline in our music video along with performance scenes; the storyline contained flashback memories of the artist, good times with her cheating boyfriend through the song. As a group we thought it would be more effective to differentiate the colouring to ensure the audience recognised what was happening throughout the video. We found it easy to change parts to black and white; however we struggled to alter the remaining parts to sepia because it was not provided within the colour enhancer tool. Instead we highlighted our selected section of the video which we wanted to alter and changed the filter. In the beginning I struggled with Photoshop because I was unfamiliar with the different tools, my weakest point as a group was editing (cutting) the pictures to a high standard as my artist’s hairstyle in some images were in bizarre places so if I wanted to edit it some of the images will cut too. Consequently, as a group we when to take new images that could be easier to edit and that will suit our genre more.
Here is an image I was editing at home when I downloaded Adobe Photoshop to enhance my developing skills on Photoshop. This image was one of our old set of pictures before we changed our sets of images to make our pictures suit our project.
I made my ancillaries’ tasks on Photoshop, however put my 8 page CD booklet into InDesign as it was easier to work with and change it to a pdf.
Our planning and research was a main factor of our final products. As a group we knew the genre of song we wanted to produce a video for was rap, however we was unable to concur with each other. We decided to use a friend who is also an underground upcoming talented rap artist, as we were all familiar with her songs and video styles. We were able to research similar songs/videos produced by mainstream artist who helped us with different elements of our storyboard and song. Beyonce was used on different occasions as it included similar ideas we wanted to include in our project. YouTube helped us adequately because we watched different videos, and read the comments to see the feedback so we can gain ideas from audience comments.
Our storyboard helped us to have a detailed plan of where and what type of shots we would shoot. This helped us a great deal because we was able to finish filming after a short duration -because we knew what we wanted to do. Researching the different types of 8 page CD booklets , I did not specifically base my genre on rap so that I could make comparisons between them. Rap CD Booklets consisted of darker colours and there was a pattern of this, however other genres had bright colours. Howvever, I still felt that the dark colours still was inviting because how they structured the images and the writing sill look good. As a result of this, I chose for my 8 Page CD Booklet colour to be quite dark, however, I still manged to make sure that it was still inviting and attractive for my target audience to look at, simultaneously while manging to ensure it was appealing!
In what ways will your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our chosen track was a cover song by an underground upcoming talented artist called DeeDee who produced her own version of Drake-Over my dead body. This song is never produced for these types of songs as it doesn’t naturally belong to the artist. We compared the differences between mainstream artists and underground artists videos styles and debated how we could develop the two to suit our artists style and the chosen track.
Above is the video of a female mainstream rapper Nicki Minaj, the majority of her music videos consist of performance only and she rarely incorporated narrative into her video’s. We chose to challenge this aspect because we wanted the audience to stay interested in the video, as most people enjoy something riveting to watch. The song was rap however we debated another way in which we could challenge the norms of rap videos. As a substitute of having a lot of scenes and performance types we decided to have green screen and shooting a range of shots from different distances and angles. This would allow the video to focus on the artists herself, instead of the narratives and different scenarios around her. We chose to use both a narrative and performance throughout the song this challenged the normal media conventions.
I wanted the audiences to remain intrigued throughout the video, and simultaneously create a connection between them and the artist because our target audience range from the age of 15-21. I thought by having a broader target audience I could get more people relating to DEEDEE music feel her pain, struggle and sorrows! I believe my two ancillaries’s mirrored the artists personality more than the music video track, I researched that some artists singles reflect the same sentiment as the song itself whilst others reflect the artists personality as a whole. I decided for my booklet to reflect the artist’s personality as a whole as I felt that it would be another way to attract the audience and this could help my fan base increase.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
As a group we made a questionnaire which contained a variety of questions that we looked forward to help us when we was shooting and editing our music video such as the types of video’s they liked watching and why, we handed it to about 20 people. Afterward we collected the questionnaires back and recorded our results. As a result of this, we found that our target audience would range from the age of 15-21; the majority of it will be females of multicultural backgrounds. However, they may be diversity with the types of music they listen to; their main attention will be rap. They download music and view the videos on the internet as supposed to buying albums. This appeals to DeeDee because she is an underground upcoming talented artist who does not have an album out. They would love for the artist’s videos and songs to be as realistic, In contrast to some mainstream rap artists who brandish materialism because these items are not available to my chosen target audience. This piece of information allowed us as a group to put together our story board and plan around their feedback to suit the target audience needs and expectations in terms of our main product the music video. Some of the feedback was negative they did not like the type of shots that was taken so we decided to add additional ones of a higher quality. Additionally, in our questionnaire around the college and we asked them why do teenagers and young adults relationship never last, and the majority of females said it’s the boys fault and it’s because they cheat on the girl and they do not stay faithful! One girl even said ‘Relationships are a WASTE’ so we decided to take a flyover of a bin and litter box.
Ancillary 1
My ancillary one was similar to my CD cover and most people were flabbergasted. I chose not to follow the theme of pattern of the same artist but different types of posters and CD front cover. Because I wanted my project to be realistic, so by making every production similar people can see DeeDee poster on the streets then walk into a shop and buy the CD.
Ancillary 2
For my 8 page booklet cover was a ADZ AND SHALLOW cover who are British rap artist, they single cover appealed to me because it looked good and my target audience as it wasn’t the norm and looked extremely detailed. It represents the main convention of rap which is the streets/ ghetto -where rap originates from.
I was not aware that you have to make two back covers; as a result of this I was unable to produce my second one up to standard. Firstly, I wanted my back cover to have the same theme as my front cover (above). However when I realised that it wasn’t the cover for the back of the whole booklet I had to take items off for instance: Barcode. On the other hand, the feedback from the audience was positive they said they liked the way I edited the image and made it stand out, that was engrossed them into the CD Booklet.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
All of my tasks merge together with the representation and structure, which is thriving as we mostly challenged normal forms and convetions in our main task.
In my two ancillaries where the emotions are different from the main task ( the music video), I still believe it still merges well as it shows the artists personality as an alternative of what it depicts in the song!

Analysing Posters and Breaking the Posters Down
In these posters the fonts are the same white but it’s blurry which could represent the misery in the trailer, where suspense plays a huge part in these trailers also the fonts signify the genre of the trailer horror. Also the both posters have credits at the both of the title which could portray a form of
guarantee and as a means of prompting audience expectations. On the other, in Absentia the anchorage shows the protagonist facing the audience which could be depicted as the victims who find there selves in conflict; however, in The Unborn the protagonist is facing their back to the audience which could be interpreted as, the villain who has turned their backs on societies norms and values and decided to commit nefarious deeds and become deviant. In addition, it could highlight that the character refuses to follow societies rules and who does what they want.
Furthermore, both posters have images with writing beside it this could mean the significant of the people in the trailers and the characteristics of their characters in the trailer.
In GONE and SCARY MOVIE 5 the fonts are bold and stands out this could represent the theme of the film where the title plays a huge part in the movie. However, in The Haunting the font is white and thin this could represent the misery in the trailer, where suspense plays a huge part in these trailers also the fonts signify the genre of the trailer horror. On the other, in Gone the anchorage shows the protagonist facing the audience which could be depicted as the victims who find there selves in conflict; however, in Scary Movie 5 the protagonist face is enlarged and a huge hand and the finger is piercing through the character nose this could evoke the pain and suffering that is going to take place in the film. In addition, in Gone there are three images that are behind each other this could be interpreted as, the first image that is dark could be seen as the person who is perpetually making the character commit horrific deeds and show abhorrence towards society. Also, the second image is the character which could be seen as innocent and vulnerable. Additionally, the third image is small and fully black; however, the background of the image is white this could signify paradoxical imagery through the colours white and black, this could be seen as good and bad. On the other hand, this could be seen as the protagonist conscience.
Nevertheless, in the Haunting there are six images in the font cover and there are two images that is larger than the rest this could mean they could be a battle between these characters and they may be a clash between them in the film. Also, there are two characters on both sides this could highlight there are different sides in the film, good and bad. Therefore, in my opinion, I believe that the characters on the left side of the poster could portray the bad side, and on the right side the victims who are good and trying to follow the norms of societies and try do what’s right!

ROLES WEEKLY (CREW MEMBERS)
As a group we discuss that we did not like Insidious teaser trailer because it did not relate to our ideas for our teaser trailer.
In addition, we discuss that we liked this teaser trailer because it related to our teaser trailer ideas, also we found the storyline very interesting, also we found it different to other horror teaser trailer. We thought if we did not do media what teaser trailer would we like, also when we see it on television would this teaser trailer persuade us to go out and watch the film in the cinemas. We answered Yes!
Last week we researched what we are going to base our teaser trailer on (Look at different teaser trailers). Also we discuss together what teaser trailers we liked and disliked, In addition, we discuss what we are going to put in our teaser trailer (Ideas).
Additionally, we looked at teaser trailers synopsis and took ideas from it and we decided how we are going to make our teaser trailer synopsis.
We researched the effects of different camera angles and how they represent the scene settings, moods and characters we have put together a final plot of the teaser trailer including the different images and sound.
As a group we sorted out how we are going to construct our storyboard and where we are going to take the pictures. Then we went to go find the people that are going to play a part in our teaser trailer to start taking the photos. As camera operator I took charge of taking the photos, also the angle shots I am going to take the photos, to create suspense and tension. For instance: A close-up shot, shows the character mood they are in at that point.
We had an introduction on how to use a camera, and as camera operator this was very benefical because it help me to know how the camera works and how to use it. In addition, we was taught how to use the camera outside, for instance: The camera moves is key to the narrative flow of feature films, and is the Camera Operators' responsibility. Also, as camera operator I am the first people to use the camera's eye piece to assess how all the elements of performance, art direction, lighting, composition and camera movement come together to create the cinematic experience.
This is how we are going to layout out our storyboard (template), so we can get every detail to make it the best it can be!
This week our group has been putting in the pictures that we are going to use for our storyboard, also we have been talking about how we are going to film our teaser trailer and the location we are going to set our story.
As a group we have chosen characters for our storyboard and divided their roles. This week we should go to the location to film our teaser trailer. As camera operator I will be taking care of the camera and structuring the positions of our characters. In addition, I will be choosing the camera shot and angles ( for instance: Medium shot to show the body language of our character) for the scenes in our teaser trailer, after the filming as a group we will do the editing.
This week our group is researching and planning our ancillery tasks on a magazine and poster based on our teaser trailer.
Here are some examples we thought we can base our teaser trailer poster on...
